Printed Electronics now available in the shops   2009-03-02
The American magazine Esquire is a pioneer in the use of Printed Electronics. On the occasion of the magazine’s 75 Anniversary the 2008 October issue was restricted to a limited edition of 100,000 copies with the cover making use of printed electronics.

The front cover comprises of an animated area with the text “The 21st Century Begins Now”. On the inside of the cover is an advertisement for Ford using the same technique to animate and light the area around one of the company’s cars. The technology is powered using 6 batteries and two chips which have been inserted inside the cover page. The batteries are expected to last 3-6 months.

To achieve this spectacular cover picture took a whole year from project inception to delivery. The entire production process involved the magazine undertaking an almost around the world journey. Stops were made in Shanghai in China, Dallas in Texas, Negras in Mexico and Glasgow in Kentucky before being delivered to outlets in the United States.

Esquire magazine was founded in 1933. This is a life-style magazine whose target group are well-educated, affluent city males.
